Australia’s biggest cranes are being used tear up and rebuild the Frankston railway line as work ramps up on one of Melbourne’s most intensive level crossing removal projects. The heritage station buildings in Cheltenham have been carefully dismantled and safely stored away, while we work on confirming their final location and continue constructing the new station precinct. Our biggest level crossing removal construction blitz started on Saturday night, and boom gates at Park and Charman roads were removed on Sunday morning. The Balcombe Road boom gates were removed the previous week when the road closed, meaning Mentone and Cheltenham are now boom gate free.
