Suburban Rail Loop will transform Victoria’s public transport system, connecting every major train line from the Frankston Line to the Werribee line, and improving access to housing, jobs, schools, universities and hospitals in Melbourne’s middle suburbs.

The benefits of Suburban Rail Loop will be felt beyond the improvements to the rail network. It will reshape the way we live and move around Melbourne and will bring areas (or precincts) around the new train stations to life, triggering investment, enhancing their amenity and increasing their connectivity to the rest of Melbourne.

Suburban Rail Loop Authority (SRLA) has been established to lead the planning and delivery of Suburban Rail Loop on behalf of the Victorian Government.

The planning and development phase is underway for Stage One to connect our growing health, education, retail and employment precincts in Melbourne’s southeast between Cheltenham and Box Hill.

The broad alignment and precinct locations for Stage One have been confirmed. The final route and station box locations are subject to detailed analysis, stakeholder engagement and engineering investigations.

Stage One will be built as a twin-tunnel, standalone line that will fully integrate into our existing public transport network with new underground stations surrounded by emerging and developing precincts at Cheltenham, Clayton, Monash, Glen Waverley, Burwood and Box Hill.

We have the opportunity to plan and design enhancements to the precincts around Suburban Rail Loop stations so they become even greater places for people to live, work, study and shop.
